Resident Education Day will be held virtually over two half days, Tuesday, May 25 and Wednesday, May 26, 2021, immediately preceding the Annual Scientific Meeting (ASM) of the Canadian Geriatrics Society (CGS).

Why should I attend?

This course was uniquely designed by geriatric medicine residents and program directors to complement the teaching curriculum of geriatric programs in order to cover Royal College examination topics. The program will be split into two half days and will include presentations from Canadian faculty experts, medical jeopardy and a meet and greet with recent graduates. Topics for this year will include:

  • Non-pharmacological management of behavioural and psychological symptoms of dementia
  • Osteoporosis management
  • Optimal perioperative care for the geriatric patient
  • Language assessment
  • Medical Jeopardy
  • Top 10 papers
  • Meet and greet with recent graduates from varying models of practice: academic (education/research), community practice

Healthcare providers are needed now more than ever and we are immensely proud of the strength of our community. To highlight the diverse ways CGS members across the country are contributing to the CGS vision “a Canadian health care system that ensures older adults age with dignity and live life to the fullest”, we are compiling short video clips for a social media campaign.


  • State your name, your workplace and highlight your interests in Geriatric Medicine
  • Feel free to shoot your video in diverse workplaces, with colleagues of any discipline. Feel free to be creative; it does not have to be too serious
  • End your video with “I am/We are the Future of Canadian Geriatrics”

  • Example script: “I am Paula Pearce, Geriatrician, and I am Lara Nixon, Family Physician. We are providing collaborative care to marginalised older adults residing in a harm reduction facility in Calgary. We are Canadian Geriatrics.” OR “I am Krista Reich, one of the Geriatric Fellows from the University of Calgary and I am interested in perioperative care of the older adult. I am the Future of Geriatric Medicine.”
