Overview: The CFPC/CGS Award of Distinction in Health Care of the Elderly is supported by the Canadian College of Family Physicians (CFPC) in collaboration with the Canadian Geriatrics Society (CGS), and recognizes contributions to quality patient-centered care of Canadian seniors. This achievement praises leadership in the care of a clinically challenging population, and celebrates the essentializing of social accountability, equity, and advocacy.

Call for Nominations - Ronald Cape Distinguished Service Award : CLOSED 

Overview: Each year, the Society presents an award to recognize an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to the health care of older adults in Canada.

Call for Nominations - Peter McCracken Physician Innovator in Education Award : CLOSED 

Overview: This award is not intended as a “life-time achievement award;” rather, it honours a single achievement within the last 3 years. The award recognizes a geriatric medicine or care of the elderly physician’s accomplishment in ONE of the following areas:  

  • Development and use of innovative teaching and/or evaluation methods for geriatric medicine OR
  • Effective use of strategies at a local or national level to increase geriatrics content in the curriculum OR
  • Development of strategies to increase interest in or recruitment to geriatric medicine OR
  • Conducting of an innovative and/or influential research project related to geriatric medicine education

Call for Applications: Canadian Geriatrics Society/Pfizer Continence Training Award : CLOSED 

Overview: Through a collaboration between the Canadian Geriatrics Society (CGS) and Pfizer, the CGS is pleased to announce the creation of an award to support clinical fellows or residents in training with conducting a relevant research project in the area of urinary incontinence in older patients. $10,000 is available to support research expenses and, depending on the funding requests, this amount may be divided amongst more than one recipient. The award will be available each year from 2018 – 2020. Applicants must be members of the CGS at the time of application, in addition to being in a Canadian residency or training program in either Geriatric Medicine or Care of the Elderly, or in a fellowship program after completion of a Geriatric Medicine or Care of Elderly residency.
